SEQALAB Update and Jeremy Memorial Anthology

July 3rd, 2009 by admin

Hey Guys!

First off, thanks for posting along all of the messages and condolences the past month. We’ve gotten them all, and though we haven’t been able to respond to each one, definitely know they’ve helped us all deal with the loss of Jeremy.

We wanted to let you know that we will  be resuming recording of the show as soon as we can. Without getting into all of the details, we don’t have access to  a lot of the passwords and info that Jeremy had while operating the podcast. We’re contacting the host of this site and trying to get that information as soon as we can. It makes operating the show near impossible otherwise. But thanks for being super patient. It’s weird for us not spending our Friday’s chatting up comics and the industry as a whole. We can only imagine how it feels to not hear the show at all. Just know we’re working to get the show back on a regular schedule again.  We’re looking forward to recording the monumental 100th episode.

Finally, on to Jeremy’s Memorial Anthology Book. I’m passing this info on from the Sequential Art Department Chair, David Duncan:

 Hello Everyone.

There will be an anthology in memory of Jeremy mullins. We will also do a website that features the comics. We want to pen it up to anyone who would like to participate. Please forward or post this as you feel led. The book will be released at SPX in September. The book will also be available online. All of the proceeds from this publication will go toward the Jeremy Mullins Memorial Scholarship. The guidelines are as follows:

-The Story must be about Jeremy somehow. The art should be in your own style. Black and white art. No more than 6 pages (single illustration images are fine). Quality: Your art should meet Jeremy’s class standards, so no crappy art. Standard comic book size (10 x 15 panel area on 11 x 17, or proportional) Scanned @ 300 dpi. Tiff format. Due Date: August 1st. Send submissions to :

David Duncan/ Norris Hall, 548 E. Broughton St. Savannah, GA 31401 or email to: daduncan@scad.edu.

In addition to this publication, we will be putting a color collection of Jeremy’s comics together.

So that’s all of the news we’ve got for now. Again, thanks for the understanding and support. You have no idea how much we appreciate you all. We look forward to puting together a great book in Jeremy’s honor. Check back for more announcements from the SeqaHomies. Remember…..

Professor Jeremy Wade Mullins

September 1976-June 2009

On Saturday June 13th, the world lost a great man. Jeremy Mullins was a man who wore his passion and enthusiasm for life, friendship, and comics on the sleeve of his three piece suit. He had only been teaching full time at SCAD for only a year, but he had given many young and confused cartoonists inspiration and a sense of direction. He was a fountain of knowledge when it came to webcomics and is in some way connected to almost all of the webcomics being drawn by SCAD students today. He led by example and even created a hilarious webcomic of his own.

 sweeav.jpg

His mission to better SCAD extended far beyond the required classroom hours. He regularly gave out his personal phone number to students on the first day of class and let it known that he was available to help them at anytime, day or night. When he wasn’t helping students in his classes he was also in charge of running this very blog, updating it with random news from students, faculty, and alumni.

But even all this wasn’t enough. One day he had the idea of all ideas on how to make the Sequential Art Department the best department in any school ever. He would create a podcast. Seqalab was Jeremy’s way of both; promoting a school that he dearly loved, and showing the world that comics are important, stimulating, smart and fun.

During this time of sorrow, it will take a while for many of us to make our way back to our drawing tables and start comic-ing again. When that time comes, we can honor Jeremy by striving for the same level of perfection he strove for in his life.

Thanks, Jeremy, for everything.

A Savannah Memorial Service will be held:

When: Monday, June 22, @ 5:30pm

Where: Tybee Island, on the beach adjoining the parking lot between the beach and North Beach Grill Parking is Available there, or across the street in front of the lighthouse.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the scholarship below:
