Grad Workshop with Mara Lund Montano

Posted on 03 February 2015 by Paige Cambern

Graduate student, Mara Lund Montano, will be giving a workshop this Friday for all who are interested.

The workshop will be at 2PM this Friday, Hayman’s Hall, room 115.

Mara will be talking about a brief history of El Chamuco, a Mexican comics anthology that used political cartoons as a form of expression in a time of fear and repression. In the years where Mexico has faced the most corruption and horrors from their governments, five cartoonists took it upon themselves to translate the country’s fear into satirical caricatures as a form of entertainment as well as awareness. To this day, Mexico is considered one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, and freedom of speech is threatened; these cartoonists use their talents, their humor, and their ideals to defend a country they love.
